William (Bill) Burgess January 4, 1944 – September 12, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of William “Bill” Burgess on September 12, 2025, at the age of 81. Born in Point Edward on January 4, 1944, Bill lived a life defined by love, devotion, and laughter.
Bill was predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, Judy, with whom he built a beautiful life and family. He was the cherished son of Gord and Lyla Burgess, and dear brother to Jack, Catherine, Barbara, Foster, James, and Donnie, all of whom predeceased him.
He leaves behind his children, Shelley, Paul (Erica), Marnie (Spencer), and Jennifer (Jay), who will forever carry his lessons and love in their hearts. Bill was a proud grandfather to Ashley, Jordan, Trevor, Nicole, Gavin, Peyton, Easton, Charlotte, Alys, and Darian, and a doting great-grandfather to Ariel, Gracie, Frankie, and Charlie. He is also survived by many members of his extended family, all of whom felt the warmth of his presence.
Bill was the heart of his family—selfless, steady, and endlessly giving. He never hesitated to put others before himself and was a constant source of support, always just a phone call away, ready to be wherever he was needed. A devoted family man, his life revolved around his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and he took immense pride in being part of their lives.
Bill was a proud employee at Imperial Oil for 35 years, including serving on their Fire Department. He also dedicated over 25 years of service to the Point Edward Fire Department, retiring as Deputy Fire Chief. Beyond his career, he was a devoted member of the Ex-Servicemen’s Club and a tireless volunteer for the Point Edward community for more than 25 years. An avid hunter and angler, he loved the outdoors as much as he loved the rink. A true “hockey dad,” he supported his son throughout his hockey years and later became his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s biggest fan, faithfully at every hockey game and sporting event. His steady encouragement, quick jokes, and unwavering presence made him a fixture in the lives of so many.
He will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and the way he made everyone feel seen and loved. Bill gave his family the greatest gifts—his love, his time, and his unwavering support. His spirit will live on in the laughter, kindness, and love of those he leaves behind.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Roberta for her constant care and support of both Mom and Dad. Special thanks also go to Dr. Sultan, Dr. Sandhu, Dr. Pope and Dr. Lily, as well as the Palliative Care staff at Bluewater Health, for their compassion and care during this time.
A celebration of Bill’s life will be held on October 19th from 12pm-4pm at the Ex-Servicemen's club in Point Edward, where family and friends will gather to share stories and honour the man
who meant so much to so many. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ex-Serviceman’s Club in Point Edward in Bill’s memory.
“Family first” was more than Bill’s motto—it was the way he lived. His love and legacy will forever guide us.
