Margaret Dermentjian ( nee Avakian )

January 20, 1935 - December 21, 2025

Our beautiful mom passed away peacefully on December 21st at Marshall Gowland Manor in Sarnia, Ontario.

Born in Beirut she was raised with her family on the mission fields of Syria and Lebanon. Mom always loved the natural beauty of the world around her.

After completing her university degree at American University of Beirut, she graduated as an RN. Her career started in the 60's at Beirut Hospital then Chicago ER and finally at Victoria Hospital for Sick Children ( Sick Kids ) in Toronto - where she continued her work as a Pediatric Nurse.

After settling down in Sarnia with her husband Aram, she raised and guided her 3 boys through the challenges of life and faith.

She was active member of St Andrews Presbyterian Church and involved with the University Women's Club of Sarnia.

Her strong & determined faith was always in the forefront of her life - from teaching youth groups at St. Andrews Presbyterian to attending bible studies to help deepen her faith journey.

Mom was an amazing cook. She helped feed many hungry souls - from platters full of pilav and kebabs to amazing desserts, moms food and love was always plentiful.

She is reunited with her husband of 58 years, Aram who passed on April 16, 2025. She is survived by her three sons - Armen, Diran (Cynthia), Souren (Lisa), three beautiful granddaughters - Lucy, Armenia & Sophie and her sister Batis (Betty) in Toronto. She is predeceased by her sister Aznive, brother George and parents Avak and Veronica Avakian.

A celebration of life service will follow later this spring at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Sarnia.

We would like to thank the caring staff at Marshall Gowland Manor (Rose Hall) plus the team at the Alzheimer Society of Sarnia for all of their support.

In lieu of flowers, donations to: Alzheimer Society of Sarnia, St. Andrews Presbyterian Church Sarnia & the Armenian Missionary Association of Canada would be appreciated.
