It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Edward Farrar, who died peacefully at home on February 18th at the age of 87. Adoring husband to his late wife Joan Alene Farrar (Finch). Bob is survived by his son Don (Susan) Farrar of Petrolia and daughter Robin (Phil) Macdonald of London. He was a loving grandfather to Jon (Michelle), Byron (Kristine), John, David, T.J., Georgia, Melanie and Emily (Mike). Great grandfather to Liam, Juliet, Jameson, Bailey, Mackenzie, Will, Luke and Evan. Bob was predeceased by his older brother Bill and survived by his younger brother Doug. Bob graduated from Central High School and University of Western Ontario Teachers College. He started his teaching career at Woodland Public School before transitioning to high school as a math teacher and Vice Principal, with time spent at S.C.I.T.S., St. Clair and Forrest High Schools. Hobbies were a big part of Bob’s life starting with road rallies across Southwestern Ontario in his Triumph TR3. He enjoyed hunting, was an avid woodworker and as a computer enthusiast, an early developer of computer programs for the Sarnia Board of Education. He was also a master chef cooking beautiful Sunday dinners for his family, but the most dominating hobby of all, was his love of sailing. Bob and Joan spent a great deal of their leisure time exploring every corner of Lake Huron and the North Channel, as well as adventuring around Florida and The Bahamas. The Sarnia Yacht Club played a big role in Bob’s life where he maintained strong friendships, spent countless hours every year dredging the entrance to Lake Huron and had 3 very fulfilling terms as Commodore. The family will hold a gathering in celebration of Bob’s life at the SYC Clubhouse Bar from 4-6 on Friday.
