2026

Mary Grant, 92, of Sarnia, Ontario, peacefully passed away on Monday, March 20, 2026.

Mary was born on September 28, 1933, in Glasgow, Scotland, to her parents, Henry and Isabella Cassidy. She devoted her life to her family and loved ones. Mary married her loving husband, Charles Derek Grant in 1955, and together, with their children, immigrated to Canada in 1966, where the family resided in Brigden, Ontario until moving to Sarnia in 2000.

Mom had a love of her family, creating in the kitchen, gardening, travel, books and knowledge.  Mom was a creative person and that was evident in the things she did.  She loved her books and reading and often shared this knowledge with those around her.  Her gardens were well kept and she was especially proud of her rose garden.  Travel and experiencing new destinations gave her great joy.  Creating and baking in the kitchen kept her family well fed and happy.

Mom and Susan enjoyed their special times together travelling to England and other countries through the years.  They shared many laughs and happy days together.  When Malcolm was 10 years old, mom took him to the local lumber yard and bought him some wood and taught him basic woodworking.  His love for this craft developed from that time.  He also remembers helping out in the kitchen and enjoying the baked goods, especially her raisin buns.  Mom’s trifle was the best and she passed on her recipe to her daughter-in-law, Helen.  Andrew, a lover of food, particularly enjoyed the great dinners mom created, especially when she made “breakfast for dinner” of bacon, eggs and chips.  Mom was a devoted grandmother and lovingly spent her time in assisting Susan raising her son, Mark.

Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband, Charles Derek Grant, her parents, Henry, and Isabella, her siblings John, Harry and Winnie. She is survived by her children: Susan Grant, Malcolm Grant (Helen), and Andrew Grant; her grandchildren: Anthony Grant and Mark Grant and siblings Pat and Helen.

Cremation has taken place.  A private memorial will take place at later date. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, friends may send memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society of Sarnia Lambton, 420 East Street N., Sarnia.

Mary’s children wish to thank all the staff at Marshall Gowland Manor for their wonderful care of mom in her final years.  Their professionalism, support and guidance was most appreciated.

Mary will always be remembered for her love, strength, and the lasting impact she had on those around her. She touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
