KAMEKA, Sherri Ann
‘No dress rehearsals, this is our life.’
It with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Sherri Ann Kameka in her 65th year.
Born December 6, 1960, in St. Catharines, Sherri moved to Sarnia as a young girl and spent her
life in the community, raising a family and volunteering for many years with Rotary Club of
Sarnia Bluewaterland. Sherri owned Flowers Plus, designing amazing floral creations that
helped the city celebrate, mourn, and recognize accomplishments large and small.
Although quick to recognize herself as a private person, Sherri led a life full of trips, adventure,
and more than the occasional party, including her epic 49th birthday Blue Rodeo surprise
concert that will live on in family lore.
From riding around town on her Spyder, to sitting around countless campfires, to watching her
grandkids splash in the pool, Sherri both takes with her and also leaves behind so very many
memories that will be shared and held close by those who love her.
Sherri is survived by her loving husband Roger, married 44 years - partner, confidante, best
friend - the brightest star in her sky. Also survived by daughter Jaycee, their mother-daughter
bond lifelong and unbreakable. Jaycee’s husband Brian became the son she never had.
She is survived by her 2 grandkids, Brayden and Rylee, an unending source of joy and love
that she cherished every single day. One day, she’ll look down from heaven and watch Brayden
pitching for the Jays, and Rylee shooting hoops in the WNBA.
Survived by her sisters, Johna (Barry) and Tricia (Mark), her partners in crime from their days
growing up on Brenchley Street, to their recent daily 3-way phone chats that helped make an
unbearable situation a little bit better.
Survived by brother-in-law Wayne (Deb) and mother-in-law Elaine.
Survived by brother-in-law Kevin and his wife Carol, who have been there, always, unfailingly
ready to help. Camping buddies, a shoulder to cry on - they are forever bound together.
Survived by many nieces and nephews who Sherri loved with all her heart.
Predeceased by her parents, Walt and Bev Plata, and her father-in-law, Delroy Kameka.
Although ultimately succumbing to ALS, she faced a tremendous battle with courage, strength,
determination, and honesty.
Donations to the ALS Society would be welcomed and appreciated.
There will be a private family gathering only.
And while those who are left will grieve, and mourn the loss of someone so loved, we will
pause to reflect on Sherri’s life with words attributed to author Dr. Seuss: ‘Don’t cry because
it’s over. Smile because it happened.’
