SHORTT, Gary Russell

It is with deep sadness that Gary passed away peacefully at Palliative care Bluewater Hospital in Sarnia on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at the age of 77.  He fought a courageous battle with congestive heart failure.  He leaves behind his wife Nancy Shortt (DeBlaere), son Chris Shortt (Ashley), stepdaughter Michelle Angelski (Ed), brothers Rick Shortt (Linda), David Shortt, and brothers in law Ron DeBlaere (Holly), Randy DeBlaere (Debbie) and sister in law Julie MacKinlay (Ian) and Lori Belcher (Zack).  Also many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews plus many wonderful friends.  Predeceased his mother and father Helen and Stan Shortt, mother and father in law Gil and Wilda DeBlaere.  Gary had many hobbies including a fan of country music, he played guitar and sang.   He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, playing golf, fastball and hockey back in the day and was a keen euchre player.  His working career included firefighter and spent several years as a safety supervisor in the chemical valley.  Gary will be loved and sadly missed by all who knew him.  We would like to give special thanks to Dr. Kim, Dr. MacSweeney, doctors, nursing staff in the ICU, emergency and palliative units at Bluewater Health Hospital and family and friends that visited him.  Arrangements entrusted to Lakeview Cemetery Burial & Cremation  519-337-5761  Those wishing to make a donation in Gary’s memory could consider Bluewater Foundation (Sarnia Hospital) or the charity of your choice.   A Celebration of his life will be held at the home Ron & Holly DeBlaere from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm on Saturday, September 20, 2025 (2003 James Street East, Bright’s Grove N0N 1C0)
